Part-Time Youth Worker (temporary position)

Youth Worker: (Temporary October 2024 to May 2025)

Duties Include:

Cameray Child and Family Services is currently seeking a Temporary Youth Worker for our Assisting Children with Transitions (ACTS) Program located in Burnaby and New Westminster. The Youth Worker assists ACTS program staff with delivering service to grade 4 to 7 elementary school students intended to support successful transition to secondary school. This position requires union membership with the Health Sciences Association of BC (HSABC). 

Hours of Work: 16-20 hours per week.

Shifts: 2:00- 6:00pm                                         

Salary: Pending JJEP $24.97 per hour

Start date: October 1, 2024

Location: Based out of New Westminster and Burnaby 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assists in the planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of community based recreational and social activities to meet student needs i.e.  Homework Clubs.   
  • Encourages and facilitates student participation in activities, provides guidance and instruction where necessary.
  • Helps program participants with skill-building (life skills and social skills) and models appropriate behaviour.
  • Helps encourage the safety of program participants.  Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
  • Assists in maintaining records and procedure reports.
  • Help coordinate mentors for activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of one year of post secondary training in recreation or a related field. 
  • A minimum of six months recent related experience working with children and youth. 
  • Satisfactory criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations.
