Temporary Position up to January 2018 with possible extension

 for Child Victim Support Worker

  • 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
  • Burnaby, BC
  • Starting wage $3,044.02 per month (step 1)
  • To start August 28, 2017

Duties Include

  • Direct service to children and youth involved in the justice system as victims or witnesses
  • Liaise with RCMP, Crown Council, Community Agencies
  • Case management and co-ordination
  • Court orientation and accompaniment
  • Information and referrals
  • Community awareness
  • Other duties as required

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work well with children and youth and provide support and advocacy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the impact of abuse
  • Knowledge and understanding of violence against children
  • Clear understanding of and commitment to confidentiality
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues pertaining to cultural diversity
  • Understanding of philosophies of victim services
  • Understanding of the Criminal Justice System
  • Understanding of Restorative Justice and alternative measures
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work well within the Agency as well as work co-operatively with community service providers
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to be non-judgemental and compassionate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in related discipline
  • Experience working directly with children
  • Victim Service Training – module 1,2 and 3 preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a professional team
  • Driver’s License
